Reading a signal

How to read these SPY call signals

Each SPY call signal is a timestamped algorithmic detection of unusual SPY call-option activity. Read it together with its strike, expiration, detection time, and what SPY did afterward. A call signal records which side of the options tape moved; it is not a recommendation to buy or sell calls.

What each SPY call signal includes

01
Direction
Always call here. The SPY archive also keeps put signals separately.
02
Strike and expiration
The exact contract that was flagged. Many SPY signals are same-day, 0DTE contracts.
03
Detection time
US Eastern, to the minute, fixed when the signal fires and never edited afterward.
04
SPY price at detection
The one-minute bar open at that minute. Every outcome in the archive is measured from it.
05
Observed movement
Where SPY went between detection and the recorded close, plus the intraday peak in the signal's direction. Underlying price only, never option profit and loss.

Detected
October 6, 2026 at 11:33 AM ET
Fixed the moment the model flagged the activity. Times are US Eastern and are never edited afterward.
Direction
Call
Unusual call-option activity. Conventionally read as bullish, but the tape shows which side moved, not who bought or sold.
Strike and expiration
$782.00 call, expires same day
The exact contract that was flagged. A same-day expiration is a 0DTE contract with very little time for a move to play out.
SPY at detection
$781.25
The one-minute bar open at the detection minute. Every outcome below is measured from this price.
SPY at recorded close
$781.41, 6 minutes later
The bar at the observation's suggested close, in the same session. Nothing in this archive is held overnight.
Observed move
+0.02% in the signal's direction
Size of the underlying's move between those two prices. This is the price of SPY, not the price of the option.
Peak move
+0.03% at the intraday extreme
The most favorable point reached before the recorded close. Capturing it would have required exiting at the exact extreme.
Modeled return
+2.3%
The observed move times a fixed 110x directional proxy. Not measured profit and loss: it ignores premium paid, bid-ask spread, fills, time decay, and fees.

Every price above is the underlying, never an option quote. Past performance does not guarantee future results.

Every figure measures the underlying's price between the detection minute and the recorded close in the same session, never overnight. None of it is option profit and loss: actual option returns depend on premium paid, bid-ask spread, fills, and fees that this archive does not model. The best result applies a fixed 110x leverage proxy and is the maximum in the archive, not a typical outcome. Signals without intraday bar data and implausible bad-data candles are excluded. Past performance does not guarantee future results. Read the full methodology.

Direction

What causes a SPY call signal

A SPY call signal fires when Astronomer's quantitative model detects a statistically significant shift in SPY call-option volume and flow during the live session. The detection is deterministic: it does not depend on news, a chart pattern, or an analyst's opinion, and the AI layer only summarizes what was already detected. Because the tape shows activity rather than intent, a call signal means unusual call activity occurred, not that whoever traded it was informed or correct.

Methodology

How these SPY signals are generated

What a signal is
A timestamped observation, not an instruction. A quantitative model watches SPY options activity in real time and records a signal when volume and flow change in a statistically significant way. An AI layer then summarizes and contextualizes the detection; it does not generate it.
Data sources
Consolidated U.S. options-market activity for SPY, evaluated alongside one-minute open/high/low/close bars for the underlying. Published signals preserve the contract, detection time, and underlying price observed at that moment.
Timestamps
Signal times are US Eastern (America/New_York) — the market's own clock — and are not converted to the visitor's local time zone. Underlying bars run from the 9:30 AM ET open to the 4:00 PM ET close.
Update cadence
Signals are published as they are detected, during the live window of 9:30 AM to 3:00 PM ET, Monday through Friday, excluding exchange holidays. This archive picks up new detections within about a minute; the aggregate statistics recompute daily.
How outcomes are measured
Entry is the one-minute bar at detection; exit is the bar at the observation's recorded close. Every figure is therefore intraday and same-session, never held overnight. All of it tracks the underlying's price movement, not option premiums and not profit and loss — actual option returns depend on quotes, fills, spread, and fees that this archive does not model.
Known limits
Signals with no matching intraday bar data are omitted from the statistics, and implausible moves are discarded as bad-data candles. Statistically significant activity describes what happened in the order book; it is not evidence that whoever traded it was informed or correct.

Questions about SPY call signals

Astronomer has detected 60 SPY call signals since December 2025.

Across 53 completed SPY call signals since December 2025, the underlying moved in the signal's direction 84.9% of the time. Horizon is intraday and never overnight: entry is the one-minute bar at detection and exit is the bar at the observation's recorded close, both in the same trading session. The denominator counts only signals with both an entry and a close in that session — signals still open, signals with no intraday price data, and implausible bad-data candles are excluded. This measures the underlying's direction only. It is not option profit and loss, and it does not account for premium paid, bid-ask spread, slippage, or fees. Past performance does not guarantee future results.

Across 55 SPY call signals with intraday price data, the underlying moved an average of 0.11% in the signal's direction at its intraday peak. Peak means the most favorable point reached during the session, not the price at any exit — capturing it would require selling at the exact high. The single best observation in the archive is a modeled 44.7% from a call on February 11, 2026 — that is the maximum, not a typical result, and it is derived from the underlying's move using a fixed 110x leverage assumption rather than any option price that was actually quoted or filled. These figures are not measured option profit and loss. Actual option returns require option quotes or fills. Past performance does not guarantee future results.
